Support the “Middle Way” Approach, Harmony and Friendship between Tibetans and Han Chinese — Announcement of the 2026 “March 10” International Commemorative Conference on the Tibetan Uprising Day
March 10, 1959, marks the day when the Tibetan people, having endured eight years of brutal rule and full-scale invasion of Tibet by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), rose up in revolt. This day became Tibetan Uprising Day. Under the leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan people have arduously ventured into the world, making their home in every corner of the globe, and have traversed a glorious 67-year journey.
For more than half a century, Tibetan Buddhism has spread throughout the world, deeply rooted in people’s hearts, and become a world religion. His holiness the Dalai Lama has also become a beloved world-class religious leader, winning widespread praise and respect. The Tibetan and Han Chinese, along with friends from all over the world, will not forget this day. Every year on this day, international commemorative gatherings are held around the world. People will not forget this day, a day written with the lives and blood of the Tibetan people. Since His Holiness the Dalai Lama initiated the dialogue between Han Chinese and Tibetan peoples to “find common ground,” this day has become a day of unity and friendship for the Han Chinese and Tibetan peoples in their joint opposition to the totalitarian rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
First, through these commemorative activities, we encourage the world to forever remember the crimes of genocide committed against Tibetans by the CCP’s dictatorial rulers. We remember His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teachings: the conflicts between Han Chinese and Tibetan peoples stem from the CCP’s totalitarian rule, and these problems are man-made. Holding these commemorative activities together is to enhance communication, increase contact and exchange, understand the truth, and jointly shoulder the responsibility of seeking reconciliation.
Second, through these commemorative activities, we also express our respect and love for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, believing in his frankness and sincerity, and in his kindness and compassion. Those who sow love and compassion are great and sacred. His contributions, virtues, and words for world peace and benevolence will be forever recorded in the history of world peace.
Third, through these commemorative activities, we understand and support His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s efforts to peacefully resolve the Tibetan issue, protect the Tibetan language, culture, and religion, and safeguard the livelihood of the Tibetan people. His Holiness the Dalai Lama proposed the “Middle Way” approach to uphold equality and mutual benefit between the Tibetan and Han Chinese, resolve conflicts, and promote stability and harmony. This is a fundamental policy determined by the Tibetans through democratic discussion. This thought of His Holiness is the most feasible method and model for promoting and facilitating exchanges and understanding between the Han Chinese and Tibetan peoples.
Sino Euro Voices has held a global ZOOM online video commemorative conference for five consecutive years. Tibetan friends suggested that forms and activities of Han-Tibetan cooperation need to be consistently maintained to remind the world not to forget, and to jointly shoulder the responsibility for freedom, democracy, and reconciliation. This year’s global Internet commemorative activities are again jointly prepared and organized by friends from both the Han and Tibetan people. We welcome friends from all over the world to participate. In dealing with the contradictions and conflicts created by the CCP between the Han and Tibetan people, we should not focus on “you” and “me,” but rather emphasize “we,” sharing the burden together, maintaining friendship, mutual understanding, and mutual support, and striving for a win-win and mutually beneficial outcome.
